Xingyiquan is the oldest of the Big Three Internal Styles of Chinese Martial Arts. Your beloved Kung Fu Uncle is a fanatical Xingyi Man. Uncle also loves the Two Handed Sword. So it should come as no surprise that I practice Xingyi’s Two Handed Sword. Here‘s the updated, & slightly expanded, 10 Character Secret. 十字訣/Shi Zi Jue – Ten Character Secret
劈砍刺撩剪,
掛劃裹撥圈。
劈/Pi – Chop
砍/Kan – Hack
刺/Ci – Stab
撩/Liao – Scoop
剪/Jian – Cut
掛/Gua – Hang
劃/Hua – Slash
裹/Guo – Wrap
撥/Bo – Deflect
圈/Quan – Circle
Principles of the Xingyi Sword Method
形意武術與別派不同. 一切器械皆以拳為母。
Xingyi Martial Arts & other Schools are not the same. All of the Weapons, in every case, use the Boxing as the Mother.
如劈砍刺撩剪為擊法, 則掛劃裹撥圈為顧法。
If 劈/Pi, 砍/Kan, 刺/Ci, 撩/Liao, & 剪/Jian are Striking Methods, then 掛/Gua, 劃/Hua, 裹/Guo, 撥/Bo, & 圈/Quan are Defending Methods.
劍法種類略與拳同蓋。拳法所能者劍法亦皆能之。
The strategies of the various Sword Methods & Boxing is roughly similar. If the Boxing Method is capable of doing something, then the Sword Method should also be capable of it.
