七長/Qi Chang – Seven Long

順步請長,搖步入手,纏封雙掌,迎面通捶,剿手砍掌,反身疾入,韓通通背。

Smooth Step Inviting is Chief, Shaking Step Entering Hand, Winding Sealing Double Palm, Direct Connecting Hammer, Stealing Hand Chopping Palm, Reversing Body Quick Entering, & Han Tong’s Tong Bei.

順步請手者,彼已出手進步,吾即借勢打之,如彼自就我搥,故曰請,以逸持勞之法也,搖步入手者,前腿外擺,後腿中路,前手封護,後手前出,扭身以入也。

Smooth Step Inviting Hand is he extends a hand & advances a step, I take the opportunity to strike it, then he is sure to suffer my strikes, that is why it’s called Inviting. Use the Leisurely Maintains the Labor Method. Shaking Step Entering Hand is the Front Leg Swings Out, & the Rear Leg Strikes sort. The Front Hand Seals & Protects, the Rear Hand Extends Forward, Twist the Body in order to Enter.

纏封雙掌者,兩手合纏,雙掌直衝也。

Winding Sealing Double Palm is both hands wind around together, & both Palms directly thrust.

迎面通捶者,或出或請,兩搥直通前後相接,一時齊到也。

Direct Connecting Hammer is maybe extending & maybe inviting, both strikes lead directly to the Front & Rear Interlinking.

剿手砍掌者,行棍走纏,如牛鞭旋轉也,起手是剿,落手是砍,反正交互,中外齊舉。

Stealing Hand Chopping Palm is moving the rods waking & coiling, like a bull whip whirling & turning. The rising Hand steals & the falling hand chops, alternating reverse & upright, inside & outside evenly chosen.

翻身疾入者,賣勢如走,轉身回取,所謂回馬拳也。

Reversing Body Quick Entering is showing off a pattern like Walking, Turning the Body & Returning to Take, the so-called Returning Horse Fist.

通背者,韓通展雄,俱肘骨股一根,穿肩而用,後人學之,前伸後屈,側身直衝,是謂通背。

Tongbei is Han Tong Imposingly Extended, from elbow bone to thigh a single root, passing through the shoulder & used. Later generations will study it, first stretching, then bending, Diagonal Body & Straight Thrusting, that is called Tongbei.

八短/Ba Duan – Eight Short

迎面頭捶,靠身臂捶,蹲身膊捶,

粘拿胸捶,雙膝兩肘。

Direct Head Punch, Leaning Body Arm Hammer, Squatting Body Shoulder Hammer, Adhereing Grabbing Chest Hammer, Both Knees & the two Elbows.

頭捶臂捶,最宜側用,若人重圍,貼靠揪采,亦可正用之,提肩挺胸,俱有粘拿在内,入肘遠近俱宜,起膝靠身可得。

The Head Hammer & Arm Hammer are most suited to Diagonal use, it’s as if a person were doubly surrounded. Attaching, Leaning, Seizing, & Plucking, are also able to use it correctly. Raise the shoulders & straighten the chest, they all have Adhering & Grabbing within them. Entering with the elbow at any distance is appropriate, Raised Knee Leaning Body is certainly allowed.
