Retreating Step also first withdraws the rear foot, Kua Step prioritizes the outside & must stay away from the center.

此掌與人大不同, 手未動兮膀先攻。
未從前伸先後縮, 吸足再吐力獨豐。
This Palm & other people’s are not alike, before the hand has moved the upper arm already attacks.
Withdraw before extending, draw in enough then release & the power alone will be sufficient.
歌十四/Song Fourteen
此掌與人大不同, 前掌後掌力相通。
欲使梢兮先動跟, 招招如是不得鬆。
This Palm & other people’s are not alike, the power of the front palm & rear palm are interlinked.
If you want to use the tip first move the root, every maneuver is like this, don’t be slack.

此掌與人大不同, 未擊西兮先聲東。
指上打下人莫測, 卷珠倒流更神通。
This Palm & other people’s are not alike, Before you attack the West make noise in the East.
People don’t thoroughly examine Point Above & Strike Below, Rolling a Pearl with Reversed Flow is an even more remarkable ability.
